Competition Rules
Classes, points, awards, registration and show day rules.
Show programme
The show date and the registration window are given in the competition facts above and are also announced on our website.
Final checks of the birds are completed by 09:00. Judging starts at 10:00.
Clear cock and hen class
Completely clear yellow birds with no marks, and birds with a single green mark on one side of the body only (small marks), belong to this class. Birds with two or more green marks are not judged in this class.
Variegated cock and hen class
Birds with two or more green marks compete in this class: on clear birds, distinct green marks on both wings or around the eyes; on green birds, distinct yellow/white marks on both wings or around the eyes. Birds with more than 3-4 green or white tail feathers, and colour-fed, dyed plain green birds, also compete in this class.
Cinnamon cock and hen class
All birds with cinnamon marks, or birds that are entirely cinnamon in colour, compete in this class.
Green cock and hen class
Completely green birds, and birds with light feathers in the tail or on a single wing, compete in this class. Birds with light feathers both in the tail and on one wing, or on both wings, move to the variegated class. Birds with a very light belly cannot enter this class. Green birds must not have been colour-fed; dyed birds compete in the variegated class.
White cock and hen class
Clear white birds, grey birds and white-ground marked birds enter this class.
Judging and placings
The number of placings in each class and the size of the best list are given in the competition facts above. The best list is chosen from the finalists of each class. Best in Show is the best bird across all classes.
Show report and points table
Every year after the show, a report covering the results and the assessment of the placed birds is written by the judging committee and published on our website in English and Turkish.
After every show, exhibitors collect points according to their placings. The points can be viewed year by year, and a points table covering all years is also open to exhibitors. Rankings are made by class and overall. The points earned for each placing and each place on the best list are shown in the points table above.
Awards
In every class, the first three birds receive a plaque (trophy) and the other placed birds receive a medal. Birds on the best list also receive a Best plaque (trophy), and the Best in Show bird, winner of the whole show, receives the Best in Show trophy.
Registration
The fees set by IYCC apply for hall entry, bird registration and sales tables. Entries are made on our website (www.iycc.com.tr) after member login, within the registration window given above.
The exhibitor's statement is taken into account when classing the birds, but the final decision lies with the staff at the registration desk. An exhibitor who shows a bird in the wrong sex class receives a warning; a repeat leads to a 1-year ban from the show.
Before judging begins, the jury makes a final check of the birds' classing and makes any necessary changes. If a bird's class changes after this check, its owner is informed through a board posted at the hall entrance; exhibitors should check this board.
To avoid crowding, registration takes place at separate desks for each class, and cages are numbered with labels. Before coming to the registration desk, exhibitors obtain from the club treasurer a receipt showing that the annual membership dues and the entry fee have been paid.
Rings
Any young bird wearing a ring showing that it was bred in the show year may enter the show.
Who may enter
All Turkish and foreign members who meet the membership conditions (dues, etc.) of İstanbul Yorkshire Canary Club may enter the show. Non-members of the club cannot enter.
Show cages and perches
Cages are Yorkshire show cages built to the rules of the Yorkshire Canary Club (YCC) of England. Each exhibitor provides their own cage. Cages must have a small white show drinker and seed. Plain white paper or a napkin may be placed on the cage floor; placing anything that could serve as an identifying mark is forbidden.
Correct perches are oval, 0.97 cm - 1.6 cm in section; for practicality they may be 1 - 1.5 cm. Each cage holds 2 perches.
Birds for sale
Birds for sale may be offered at the sales tables in a separate section of the hall. Breeders are encouraged to show their sale birds in show cages where possible, for both appearance and order. Birds offered for sale must be displayed in line with all health and hygiene rules. Any loss (illness, death or theft of a bird) is the responsibility of the owner offering the bird for sale; the club cannot be held liable.
Trade stands
A separate section of the hall is reserved for the sale of equipment. Companies and individuals wishing to sell must contact the club in advance; companies that have not booked a place cannot take part in the show hall.
Food and drink
Exhibitors and visitors can buy everything they need from the cafeterias in and around the show hall.
Smoking is strictly forbidden in the hall.
